PARIS — Shannon Moxcey, 45, of West Paris was charged with operating under the influence Monday, Feb. 15, following a crash.

POWER OUT — A single vehicle crash Monday, Feb. 15, took out power in the surrounding area of Elm Hill Road in Paris around 6:30 p.m. The driver, Shannon Moxcey, was not hurt, according to police, but was charged with OUI.

Her BrAC (Breath Alcohol Content) came back at .14, almost twice the legal limit of .08, according to police reports. The crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. near 702 Elm Hill Road in Paris when her 2001 Chevy Tahoe ran off the road and struck a utility pole taking out power in the area, said police.

Moxcey has been heralded for saving area towns substantial amounts in General Assistance monies. She is GA administrator for Norway, Paris, West Paris, Waterford, Mechanic Falls and others, recently adding Otisfield to her roster. She has brought Norway’s GA expenditure from more than $100,00 to less than $5,000.

She has done this, she said in a recent article in the Advertiser, by requiring strict adherence to the GA rules.

Norway Town Manager David Holt expressed sadness with regard to Moxcey’s crash and impairment. When asked if the OUI will affect her job with Norway he said, “having been through this a number of times in 40 years I have had my share of issues. My job is to examine the facts first, then deal with the employee.”

Holt declined to speculate on how it would be handled noting it was a personnel issue.

“I am sorry that this happened,” he said, “and while I have no personal sympathy [for drinking and driving,] any [more] comment at this time would be inappropriate.”

However, he added, “lots of good people make lots of mistakes.”

Moxcey was not injured in the crash and was alone in the vehicle, police said. She was taken to the Oxford County Jail for an Intoxilator (breath) test. She was charged and released. PACE, Paris Fire Department and Paris Police Department all responded to the crash.
