Phillips — The Sandy River Ramblers have been a crowd favorite at the Phillips Area Community Center for several years, and they’ll be bringing their unique blend of Bluegrass/Country/Folk music to Phillips again on February 27. The Ramblers feature the fiery instrumental stylings of Mandolinist Dan Simons and Madrid’s own Bud Godsoe on Banjo, as well as wonderful three-part vocal harmony by Julie Davenport, Stan Keach and 14-year-old prodigy Dana Reynolds.

The band also features Keach’s wonderful original songs about Maine from their critically acclaimed CD, Cry of the Loon and other original songs about Maine. Maine writer/columnist George Smith has called the CD “a gift to Mainers.” Titles include: Logger’s Son; Boots From L. L. Bean; Northwoods Cabin; and Slow Down (You’ll Hit a Moose). “That’s the song that saved Bud Godsoe’s life,” says Keach. “The day after we sang that song for the first time publicly, he jumped on his motorcycle, and was headed up Route 4 toward Rangeley. He happened to think of the words of the song, and he slowed down on Moose Alley, just to be safe, and a huge bull moose ran across the road just in front of him . . . missed it by a few feet.”

“We’ve got a new CD coming out this Spring,” says Keach. “It’ll be another collection of songs about Maine. We’ll do a few of them at the Phillips show.”

The Phillips Area Community Center is at 21 Depot Street. The concert starts at 7:00 PM. Admission is $10 for adults. Refreshments will be available at intermission. The concert will benefit the Community Center. For more information, call Stan at (207) 397-2241.
