SOUTH PORTLAND — The Summit Project will conduct a tribute march on Saturday, Feb. 27, hosted by Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s South Portland Clubhouse.
The Summit Project is a Maine-based nonprofit whose mission is to recognize and honor Maine veterans who have died since September 11, 2001. Families of these fallen heroes have unearthed and donated a special memorial stone that represents their loved one. TSP engraves the stones and carries the tribute stones and their stories on treks throughout Maine and across the world.
At 9 a.m. Feb. 27, club members and friends will take a two-hour hike with the commemorative stones around South Portland, led by Unit Director Raymond Ruby. They will stop at the South Portland Veterans Monument in Mill Creek for a sharing circle where they will take turns sharing what they have learned about the individual fallen soldiers.
At 11:30 at the Boys & Girls Clubs Clubhouse, 169 Broadway, a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Summit Project Memorial display will take place. After brief remarks, members and volunteers will place their stones in a display case that will be showcased at the South Portland Clubhouse for a month.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to all and refreshments will be served.
