SKOWHEGAN — A Maine woman charged with murder in connection with her newborn son’s death will be held without bail despite her lawyer’s claim that the woman miscarried and did not kill the child.

The Morning Sentinel reports that a judge rejected a defense request to set bail for 20-year-old Kayla Stewart. She entered no plea in her initial court appearance on Jan. 25.

Police arrested Stewart on Jan. 22. Police found the remains of the baby in the garage of a Fairfield home Stewart shared with her boyfriend, Nicholas Blood.

Blood and Stewart also have a 3-year-old daughter who is staying with relatives. Prosecutors haven’t commented on whether charges will be brought against Blood.
