1936 – 2016

AUBURN — Aileen P. Gatz, of Monmouth went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Feb. 19, at the Hospice House in Auburn. She had been surrounded by her loving family and friends over these past few weeks before her passing.

Aileen was born on June 3, 1936, at St. Mary’s hospital in Lewiston. She was the daughter of Arvard and Madeline (Fickett) Webster. She grew up in Auburn and was a graduate of Edward Little High School and the University of Maine at Orono. She lived the past 45 years in Monmouth and was a teacher in public and Christian schools in Monmouth, Turner and Lisbon. An avid Red Sox fan, she still listened to most of each season’s games on the radio and scored hundreds of them. Many a person learned that trying to call in the middle of a game would lead to a very short conversation.

She was a founding member of Victory Baptist Church in Monmouth and for the past 20 years was a member of Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore. She loved to share her faith in both words and actions — especially during the church’s annual Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her sons, Philip and Deborah Gatz of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Karl and Valerie Gatz of Hanover, Pa.; her eight beloved grandchildren, Erika Gidley, Kristin Gatz, Morgan Stone, Anna Heisterkamp, Chelsea Gatz, Kaleb Gatz, Abigail Gatz and Ben Gatz; her nieces, Debi Davis and Becky Bucci; and nephew, Halsey Davis.

She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Ann Cormier.
