1926 – 2016
TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Mary Pauline Beggs, 89, died Monday, Feb. 15, at Hospice of St. Francis in Titusville, Fla.
She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 18, 1926, to John B. and Catherine M. Levesque. Mary spent the first half of her life in Maine and her remaining years in Florida.
She was educated in Lewiston public schools. After raising her children, she began a career as a bookkeeper, a position she truly enjoyed. In Maine, she became bookkeeper for companies Seltzer and Rydholm Inc. and Davis Cadillac. In 1979, she moved to Florida to work at L.P. Gems. While working as bookkeeper for this company, she became fascinated with the art of gemology and took great pleasure in attending many of the gem shows that came to the central Florida area. She learned to determine types, cuts and quality of gemstones and over time purchased her own tools to create jewelry pieces. She found it an exciting avocation as she continued her rewarding bookkeeping career.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Catherine Rosenthal, Pat and spouse, Frank Bishop, who reside in Florida, Scott and spouse, Ellie Beggs, who reside in Maine; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosenthal, Loni Boulet, and Patrick and Christopher Beggs.
