For the past few years a motor-sled has been a thing that one reads about and seldom sees, but no longer is this the case. An Auburn young man has built and is running a successful vehicle of this model. The owner of this winter car is William “Bill” Love of 65 Pleasant street, Auburn. Mr. Love works at the Central Garage and he has been working on this machine duing his spare moments ever since the beginning of the winter. The sled proper is about 10 feet long, and is modeled after the regular bob-sled, with the exception that it is about eight inches wider than the ordinary sled. On the rear end of this is placed an Excelsior twin-cylinder motorcycle engine. Connected to the fly-wheel of this engine by a belt are two wooden wheels about 18 inches in diameter, with lag screws in their edges. With a regular auto steering wheel to guide it, this auto-sled runs on the level about 15 or 20 miles an hour and will go up over Court street hill about 10 miles an hour.

Patrons of the Village Pub in Sabattus are showing their support for members of the armed forces in the Persian Gulf War by purchasing special Support Our Troops T-shirts. Supervising the project are Norm Emond, disc jockey at the pub, and Tom Dostie, who sings “God Bless the USA” each evening. Part of the proceeds are donated to the Maine National Guard, which in turn, sends the money to the troops in Saudi Arabia.
