Students compete at Oratorical Championship

WATERVILLE — Cherith Bell, a senior at Sanford Christian Academy, recently won the state American Legion Oratorical Championship after winning post and district championships. 

Bell competed against four other students, including Amanda Hayes from Winthrop, Marta Haydym from Windham, Olivia Bruno from Blue Hill, and Cannell Keegan from Greenville. Each of the contestants received scholarship stipends for participation.

Bell will compete with 49 other state representatives for the American Legion National Oratorical Championship April 16 and 17.

Color the night away at library

LEWISTON — Teens and adults can spend a few hours at the Lewiston Public Library and color the night away starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 3.

There will be a variety of coloring pages, colored pencils, markers and crayons. There will also be music and refreshments.

The event is open to teens and adults. Supplies are provided, but those wishing are welcome to bring their own.

Legion Auxiliary hosting supper

GRAY — American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary will sponsor a supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the post, 15 Lewiston Road.

The menu will include beans, casseroles and pies. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12.

Red Hatters to crown queen

AUBURN — The Red Hatters will convene to  Saturday, March 5, at the Hilton Garden Inn during its eighth annual Swim/Slumber Party. 

This year, the Hatters will crown a Pink Hat Queen to reign over its Pink Hat Chapter.

A Pink Hat Gal is what the Hatters call “A Lady in Waiting.” Once she turns 50, the Hatters celebrate her Red-Uation, when the Pink Hatter retires her pink hat and wears a red hat.

There will be dancing, karaoke, door prizes and raffles followed by a pajama breakfast in the morning.

Kids’ breakfast with Easter Bunny

LISBON FALLS — Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St., is sponsoring a free breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5.

Local children and their families are invited to a pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny.

Luncheon to benefit pipe organ

AUBURN — A luncheon to benefit Sister Elizabeth’s pipe organ will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Sacred Heart Church Hall.

The menu will include spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, pudding, coffee, tea and punch. Donations will be $6 with tickets or $7 at the door.

New Auburn Seniors will have tickets available at all Masses or by calling 207-783-0273. The seniors will do the cooking.

Bridge play winners announced

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on Feb. 22 were, first, Jan and Vern Arey; second, Marta Clements and Pete Cummings; third, Nancy Lindgren and Tom Goodwin; first in B, Paul Clement and Mike Newsom.

Winners on Feb. 23 were: first, Steve Clements and Jeff Brazier; second, Paul Clement and Mike Newsom; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; fourth, Marta Clements and Claire Lyons.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is guaranteed and all bridge players are welcome.
