PARIS — The Maine Veterans’ home will lead a series on understanding the terms and requirements for nursing home placement

The three-part series will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, March 8, 15 and 22, at 477 High St. The public is invited, and there is no cost for the sessions. Participants may attend any or all; for those attending all three sessions, certificates of completions will be awarded. Pre-registration is not required, but appreciated.

The presenter will be RN Ellie Newell, the admissions coordinator for the 90-bed facility. The information she  present will be useful not only for placement at the Maine Veterans’ Home but for any nursing home venue. A different topic will be addressed at each session, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers.

March 8: “Do I or a family member need a nursing home?” The session will discuss the various levels of care, eligibility and payment sources.

March 15: “What to look for when you are looking for a nursing home.” How to choose a facility that meets needs and planning ahead for placement will be the topic of this session.

March 22: “The day of admission: What will it be like when I am admitted to the nursing home?” Discussion of the actual process of admission, necessary paperwork and information will be covered in the final session.

FMI, pre-register: (207) 743-6300.
