DIXFIELD — The River Valley Chapter, Bags of Love, is holding a bottle drive at the Mexico Bottle Depot, corner of Route 2 and North Main Street, Mexico/Dixfield line. Bring bottles to the redemption center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week and tell them they are for the Bags of Love collection.
Through the Lewiston DHHS office, children in Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties are supplied with their own bag containing the essentials they may need when suddenly, traumatically left with nothing, including toiletries, toys, stuffed animals, school supplies and a handmade quilt.
Most often children leave with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Receiving the bags lessens the emotional impact by giving them something to distract them from the tragic circumstances of family separation.
The chapter, which is sponsored by the Dixfield Seventh Day Adventist Church, runs on donations and fundraisers.
River Valley Chapter meetings are held from 10 a.m. to noon the first Monday of the month and 3 to 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 58 Pine St., Dixfield. All are welcome.
