WESTFORD, Mass. — Harvey L. Larrabee, 89, formerly of South Row Road, Lunenburg, Mass., died Thursday, Feb. 25, at Westford House, Westford, Mass. from natural causes.
Harvey was born in Durham, on Dec. 8, 1926, the only child of Adelbert and Mary Ella (Miller) Larrabee. He was raised in the family’s home on Brick Yard Hill Road and attended schools in Durham and Lisbon Falls.
Harvey worked at the Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls during high school and immediately following graduation, in support of the World War II production effort. In April 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Upon completion of his quartermaster training, the army assigned him to the Occupation Forces in Japan, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Following the war, Harvey began his accounting career at the Bates Manufacturing Company in Lewiston. It was in Lewiston that he met his future bride, Doris M. Wheeler of Harwinton, Conn., who was truly the love and light of his life. Harvey and Doris were married on April 18, 1953, and settled in West Auburn. They began their family and soon had two daughters and a son.
In 1959, Harvey accepted a position in the accounting department at Raytheon Semiconductor in Lewiston.
In 1960, Harvey joined the Ancient Brothers’ Masonic Lodge No. 178 in Auburn and maintained his lifelong membership there. He was pleased and honored when the Grand Lodge of Maine Ancient Free and Accepted Masons awarded him with his 50-year medal.
In 1963, Harvey accepted a transfer to Raytheon’s payroll group in Waltham, Mass. Harvey and Doris bought a house in Hudson and relocated their family. Over a career that spanned 33 years at Raytheon, Harvey held positions of increasing responsibility within the payroll department, eventually becoming the supervisor. In 1989, he transferred into the general accounting department where he was responsible for licensing and royalties transactions. He retired in 1992, bought a retirement house in Lunenburg, Mass., and was “Grampie” to his two grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew.
He enjoyed working on projects around the house, reading and completing crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his wife (2011) and his son (2013).
Left to cherish their memories are his two daughters and their families.
