DEAR SUN SPOTS: There is a movie that has been playing around the country for quite some time and has just won top picture at the Academy Awards. The name of the movie is “Spotlight.” With your help, I would like to know why it has not been shown around here. Thank you. — Lawrence, Greene.

ANSWER: “Spotlight,” rated R, is an award-winning drama that shares the story of a group of investigative journalists working for the Boston Globe who wrote a series of articles uncovering a sex-abuse scandal within the Roman Catholic Church. It initially had a limited release in the U.S. in late November of 2015 and did not show at local theaters until recently.

Never fear, though. If you’d like to catch the film on the big screen, then it is playing this week at theaters in Auburn, Brunswick and Augusta. Flagship Cinemas in Auburn is showing the film, with a running time of 2 hours and 18 minutes, this week at 12 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Regal Cinemas Brunswick 10 is showing “Spotlight” at 1:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., and Regal Cinemas Augusta 10 is showing the film at 11:55 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. If you prefer watching from the comfort of home, then “Spotlight” is also available on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as on some pay-per-view movie sites.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: After hearing a rousing, surprising, celebratory “Happy Birthday!” greeting to me from the workers at Dunkin Donuts in Turner on March 5 at about 11 a.m., a customer in line who heard the greeting had a surprise for me. On her way out, after waiting in line for me to get seated where my wife was waiting for me, she handed me a D.D. gift card for $20. I want to thank that person, who preferred to remain anonymous as she slipped out before I could properly express my thanks, for her generosity and thoughtfulness. I will endeavor to “pass it on.”

To show my appreciation to the D. D. crew, I will give each member of that crew a gift of a homemade potholder made by my wife, whose hobby is sewing. Also, thanks to the gentleman who tapped me on my shoulder on his way out and said, “Happy Birthday! You look great for 82!” All of the above helped make my day a truly memorable one. — Stan, Turner.
