Maine Gov. Paul LePage and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard are working together to increase the number of charging stations between Quebec and Portland.

LePage and Couillard announced the initiative on Wednesday after meeting in Quebec City. LePage in a news release said the initiative will ensure that Quebec tourists can visit Maine using cars powered by electric motors.

Couillard in a statement said he “salutes” LePage for his intentions to work with the province.

Maine’s energy office plans work with local businesses, national electric vehicle companies, and the newly formed “Drive Electric Maine” organization to expand the number of charging stations in Maine by the summer.
