I loved the article, “No Joke: Lewiston is cradle of champs!” by Kalle Oakes (March 7). His words are important and he articulated what many Lewiston natives feel.

I had the honor of being a parent on the ice. As he wrote: “… tiptoed the slippery surface without a care in the world”… snapping pictures and celebrating the LHS boys’ hockey win.

I know the work that goes on behind the scenes to create those successful athletes and programs. The volunteer coaches through the youth leagues, donating hundreds of hours; the parents who say “What can I do to help”; the school administration and coaches spending way more time and energy than they are paid for.

It is time that we stop accepting the “smack” talk about Lewiston and begin to “toot” our own horn.
