GRAY — Police on Saturday arrested a man they say broke into a home on Taylor Lane and assaulted the homeowner who confronted him.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Randy H. Peterson, 28, a homeless man from the Gray area. He was charged with robbery, theft and assault. He also was the subject of three existing arrest warrants, one for violating probation and two for burglary.
Police said the homeowners were awakened by their barking dog Saturday morning around 6 a.m. and found Peterson in their kitchen. One of the homeowners confronted him. They struggled, and the homeowner suffered minor injuries.
Police say Peterson fled. The homeowner’s injuries were treated at the scene.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office issued a neighborhood alert Saturday morning, advising residents within a 5-mile radius of Taylor Lane to be on the lookout for a black-haired man who stood about 5-feet, 8-inches tall and was wearing sweatpants. They said he had a knife and appeared to be on drugs.
Police arrested Peterson around 3 p.m. at a home in Gray after an investigation that was assisted by a detective from the Criminal Investigation Division.
