1949 – 2016
NEW GLOUCESTER — David Howard Hodsdon (Captain Dave), 66, of New Gloucester passed away Tuesday, March 8, after a brief battle with cancer.
Dave was born in Portland on June 18, 1949. He graduated from Yarmouth High School, where he excelled in multiple sports including basketball, soccer, baseball and golf. Dave continued on to the University of Maine at Presque Isle to receive a short but enjoyable taste of college life, where he determined his time could be better spent elsewhere.
Dave, while married to Catherine R. Waterman, had two children, Heidi and Aaron.
Dave worked in various fields including landscaping, paving and warehouse work before settling on a career as a tile installer. He enjoyed fishing, golf, darts, spending time with his son and captaining the HMS Martha.
Dave was also actively involved in the Fraternal Order of Eagles of New Gloucester, where he served as president for several terms and represented 4131 at state conventions. Dave and longtime companion, Roseanne Charland, were proud to contribute to the Eagles motto: “people helping people.”
He is survived by his brother, Lee and wife, Carol; brother, John “Jack” and wife, Caroline; sister, Jill Holley and husband, Jereal; his children, Heidi Hodsdon and husband, Stephen Youmans; his son, Aaron Hodsdon and longtime girlfriend, Kim Vogeler; nephews, Joshua Hodsdon, Daniel Hodsdon, Gregory Hodsdon; and niece, Margaret Nagle and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Geneva Hodsdon (Hildreth) and Richard Howard Hodsdon, his wife, Catherine; and his longtime companion of 23 years, Roseanne Charland.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of St. Mary’s, Central Maine Medical Center and especially, Androscoggin Hospice.
