ROXBURY — Residents voted at their annual town meeting March 7 to adopt a cemetery ordinance for the three town cemeteries, Treasurer Renee Hodsdon said Friday afternoon.

The town of Roxbury has three cemeteries: Frye Cemetery, Pineview Cemetery, and Roxbury Village Cemetery.

Throughout 2015, the Planning Board drafted a cemetery ordinance to address different areas related to the three cemeteries, including cleaning, repairs and rates.

According to the ordinance, grave plots were split into three categories for residents:

• a 9- by 8-foot, two-person grave, $200;

• a 9- by 15-foot, four-person grave, $400; and

• an 18- by 15-foot, eight-person grave, $800.

The Cemetery Committee stated that the prices for each of the categories would be higher for non-residents.

The cemetery ordinance also ensured that those purchasing plots on any of the three cemeteries would receive “reasonable care,” including cutting of the grass on the plots, raking and clearing of the plot, and the maintenance and repair of wartime veterans’ grave sites.
