1960 – 2016

LEWISTON — “Our pain is great, our words are few.” Matthew Eric Hearn passed away Sunday, March 13, at the age of 56. He died of complications from an internal rupture at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with many who loved him dearly at his side.

Matt was born in Norway on March 10, 1960, and spent his younger years living life to its fullest as a child in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he was an avid hockey player and an all-around outdoor enthusiast. He later returned to Maine where he graduated from Edward Little High School and CMVTI. He worked as a skilled sheet metal fabricator and welder at Hahnel Bros., McCann Fabrication and Bath Iron Works.

Matt lived most of his life on Hearn Hill in the house he built with his father, grandfather and former wife, Donna Giguere Hearn. They raised three wonderful children in that home and shared memories that Matt carried with him always.

In recent years, one could find Matt at home working in his garden with his loving partner, Pauline Berube Lessard, or spending time with his grandchildren. He was a simple man who found happiness in his love of nature, God and his family, whom he loved more than life itself. Fly-fishing at Moosehead Lake, camping in the Northern Woods and hunting on Hearn Hill were a few of the things Matt enjoyed.

Matt will be so greatly missed by his parents, Robert and Lee Hearn; his three daughters, Sarah Hearn, Elizabeth Hearn Fell and her husband, Tom Fell, and Jessie Hearn and her fiancé Danny Carter; his brother, Joe Hearn and his wife, Heather Hubbard Hearn; his sister, Kris Hearn Samson and her husband, Steve Samson; four grandchildren, Derek and Brody Becvar, Mason Villani, Jaxon Carter, and soon to be Baby Fell; his nieces and nephews, Shane and Hannah Hearn and Molly and Emma Samson; his aunts, Dorothy Egers, Suzanne Taylor and her husband, Phil; his partner, Pauline Berube Lessard and her children, Karie and Dustin Lessard, and grandson, Clayton; his cousins, Becky Egers, Jack Taylor and Mary Merrill; as well as many others who knew and loved him.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Raymond and Angie Hearn; and Richard and Mildred Maguire.

The family sends a heartfelt thank-you to the St. Mary’s ER staff for trying desperately to save Matt’s life. Your caring efforts went above and beyond for which we are grateful.
