2006 – 2016
SWEDEN — Nathanael James Coffey-Slattery, 9, of Sweden passed away on Friday, March 11, of Sanfilippo syndrome.
Nate, or “Natey Noodle” as he was affectionately known, was born May 9, 2006, in Ventura, Calif.
Nate never let his disability stand in the way of a good adventure. He traveled all over his community and the country with his family — most recently to Washington, D.C., and Florida. Nate was musically talented and loved to play his guitar, drums, accordion and the piano. He especially loved riding his bike and spending time with his dog, Simon. Nate loved the color orange, mascots, camping, playing soccer, being with his family, hiking, riding on the ATV and cuddling any stuffed animal that sang or talked. Nate was always smiling and giggling. He enjoyed homeschooling with his younger brother, Pete, and being a member of the Bridgton Homeschool Group. He lived a lot of life in a few short years.
The family wishes to thank the following people for their care and dedication: Nate’s care team at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, especially Debra Crump and Sue Sturgis, as well as Dr. Wenda Saunders of Bridgton Pediatrics.
Nate is survived by his father, Rob Slattery; his mother, Wendy Coffey-Slattery; his brothers, Joseph Coffey-Slattery and Peter Coffey-Slattery, all of Sweden; grandmother, Judith Newton of Berlin, Mass.; his grandparents, William and Marianne Coffey of Ventura, Calif.; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Andrew Coffey-Slattery, who also died of Sanfilippo syndrome.
