BUCKFIELD — Town Manager Cindy Dunn told selectmen at their meeting Saturday that the town was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation to make improvements to the Zadoc Long Free Library.
“That is to basically just make the building more energy efficient,” she said.
According to Dunn, the project includes:
• Removing the suspended ceiling and exposing the original cathedral ceiling;
• Replacing the old-style light fixtures with recessed lighting;
• Replacing the molding;
• Painting;
• Adding insulation in the attic;
• Insulating the basement and bulkhead area; and
• Replacing the lighting in the basement.
She said the initial estimate for the project is roughly $13,200, with $1,200 in contingency. Dunn will start the bid process soon.
“I am going to put together some specifications and send them out,” she said.
In other business, selectmen:
• Renewed a five-year permit to the Pine Tree Trail Riders to use the Railroad Bed Recreation Trail;
• Appointed Michelle Casey to the Budget Committee, term expiring June 30;
• Appointed Mike Iveson to the Economic Development Committee, term expiring June 30;
• Appointed Mike Iveson to the Planning Board, term expiring June 30, 2018; and
• Approved a total of 11 ballot clerks for the Democratic and Republican parties.
