FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue High School Principal Bruce Mochamer has announced Sierra Hoes of Farmington has been selected to receive the 2016 Principal’s Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Hoes currently serves as the president of Student Council and the National Honor Society. She has played soccer for four years and was a varsity co-captain this past year. She has volunteered at the Farmington Recreation Department coaching and refereeing youth soccer, and this past fall she was named as the recipient of the Jimmy Joe Allen Award. In addition, Hoes volunteers at the winter and spring Special Olympics in the area.

“Throughout her years at Mt. Blue High School, Sierra has distinguished herself in the classroom, on the soccer field, and as a leader in the school and the community,” Mochamer said. “She is very deserving of this recognition.”

Hoes, Mochamer and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The luncheon recognizes outstanding students with presentations of individual plaques and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
