BRUNSWICK — Raymond J. Lerette, 92, of Bowdoin passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, at Midcoast Senior Healthcare Center in Brunswick.
He was born in Augusta on Oct. 17, 1923, the son of the late Leo and Adrienne (Gagnon) Lerette. He grew up in the Lewiston area and attended Lewiston High School, where he excelled at baseball and music. He was a graduate of the Class of 1941. In 1942, Raymond enlisted in the U.S. Army Aircorps and proudly served his country during World War II, until his discharge in 1947. During that time, he met and married Lovie (Drew) Floyd and together they started and raised a family of five children.
For most of his professional life, Raymond worked in life insurance sales for more than 25 years for various insurance companies. Following the loss of his first wife, he later married Lois DeWolf on Aug. 5, 1995, and he enjoyed many years with her and her four children.
Ray will be remembered for his love and passion for playing golf and going bass fishing. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing with Lois and spending quality time with all of his family. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Bowdoin; his nine children, Don and his wife, Sharon, of Auburn, Tom and his wife, Joanne, of Lisbon Falls, Glenda Lemelin of Lewiston, Debra Richardson and her husband, Blaine, of Leesburg, Fla., Tim and his wife, Lisa, of Stuart, Fla., Lynn Pennell and her husband, Jack, of Bowdoin, Gayle Montana of Sabattus, Richard Stein of Williamstown, Vt., and Sharon Hagan and her husband, Jim, of Bowdoin. He also leaves behind a sister, Gloria Donohue of Lewiston; along with a very close loved one, Kate Vachon and her family; as well as 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Drew; and two sisters, Claire and Dot.
