LOCKE MILLS — Alexis Sing is a 15-year-old who lives in South Woodstock and is a freshman at Telstar High School. She was found to be in an acute diabetic coma on Jan. 16, and was rushed by ambulance to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland. A benefit will be held next month to help pay for medical expenses.
She suffered swelling around the brain as a result of the diabetic coma, and suffered several strokes. Alexis has weakness on her right side. She has since been moved to the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston, Mass., to undergo rehabilitation to improve the functioning of her right side.
The cost of medical bills alone is huge, and her mother currently is not working in order to be with her in Boston. Her father and brother travel to Boston on weekends to participate in her recuperation.
A benefit dinner and Chinese auction is being held on Saturday, April 2, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson-Silver Legion Hall in Locke Mills. The meal will be a spaghetti dinner, with sauces, salad and breads. Desserts will be a smorgasbord of everyone’s favorites. The cost for the meal is $10 for adults, $5 for kids up to 12, and free for kids younger than 3. Included in the evening will be a 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction. The items for the auctions will be announced starting at 6:30 p.m.
Donations are being sought for items for the Chinese auction. Organizers will make sure to give businesses publicity as they introduce each item during the auction.
