JAY — Amber Delaney of Livermore, a student at Spruce Mountain High School, has been selected to receive the 2016 Principal’s Award, Principal Thomas Plourde announced.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship. Amber is the daughter of Richard and Sarah Delaney.

Delaney is self-motivated, dedicated to her school and community and is extremely deserving of this award, Plourde said. She has challenged herself academically throughout her high school career while participating in several co-curricular offerings at Spruce Mountain High School. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of the marching band, and an active member of the SMART Robotics and Envirothon teams.

Delaney, Plourde and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The luncheon recognizes outstanding students with the presentations of individual plaques and the award of 10 $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
