TURNER — Julia Dillingham of Turner, a senior at Leavitt Area High School, has been selected to receive the 2016 Principal’s Award, Principal Eben Shaw announced.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“While a student here at Leavitt, Julia has consistently proven herself to be a positive influence on those around her. She has challenged herself academically and contributed to our school and community through her work with the NHS and our Key Club.” Shaw notes, “Julia is a remarkable student and outstanding role model for the students of our school and district.”
Dillingham, Shaw and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon in Bangor on Saturday, April 2.
The luncheon will recognize these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Maine Principals’ Association.
This year five additional $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals and the MPA, the professional association, which represents Maine’s school administrators.
