1932 – 2016
FARMINGTON — Georgie Helen Ankers, 83, of Wilton joined her other family who traveled before her on Friday morning, March 18, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, with family members by her side.
She was born Aug. 18, 1932, in Farmington, one of five children of Earl “Pete” and Maude (Sprague) Cochran. She was a graduate of Wilton Academy and on June 15, 1951, married her soulmate, Leonard Ankers. She was a devoted homemaker who also worked outside of her home at Keene Morison’s Apple Orchard on the Weld Road, the Dutch Treat in Wilton and for Dunton’s Department Store.
She was a longtime member of the WABC Bowling League. Georgie and her husband enjoyed playing beano at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop and together attended many craft fairs, where she sold her beautiful crafts, artwork and hand-painted dolls, a talent for which she will long be remembered. She was a proud grandmother whose life was enriched by her grandsons and granddaughter-in-law and their friends.
Georgie is loved by her surviving family members, son, Peter Ankers of Wilton; two grandsons, Achelas Ankers and his wife, Erika, of New Vineyard, and Ashlan Ankers of Dryden; two sisters, Mariel “Peanut” Roux of Farmington, and Earlene Lamb and her husband, George, of Wilton; and several nieces and nephews.
She and her husband were predeceased by their daughter, Pamela “Pammy” Ankers, who passed on Oct. 9, 1972. She was also predeceased by siblings, Sonny Cochran and Barbara Bernard. On Sept. 7, 2009, her beloved husband, Leonard, joined the family members who had journeyed before them; and in January of this year, she grieved the passing of their 16-year-old dog, Jake.
Tributes and condolences may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com, where her memorial video will also be viewable on Wednesday.
