KINGFIELD — Members of the American Legion will be at the Masonic Lodge on Main Street for Artwalk Friday on April 1 as part of Kingfield’s bicentennial celebration.
The Artwalk is from 5 to 8 p.m. Members will identify medals and mystery items for the public. Everyone is invited to bring his or her items.
The American Legion will display some of the artifacts, photos and keepsakes from local veterans and their families. There will also be a few ceremonial displays such as the Post Everlasting Display and the Table Set for One.
“These displays are the cornerstone for remembering our fallen,” said Kingfield Legionnaire Johnny Maynard. “We invite everybody to take a closer look at things they may only have given a passing glance to in the past.”
Information on becoming a Legionnaire or how to support the local post will also be available.
Students in Kingfield Elementary School are gearing up for their first history fair on Friday, April 8. The public is invited from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
“For the past few weeks the kids have been meeting with Kingfield residents and old-timers to learn about the men and women who settled Kingfield,” explained Tammy Goldfrank, chairwoman of the Kingfield Bicentennial Committee. “They’re getting a personal, inside peak at some of the families who’ve put Kingfield on the map, from Herbert Wing to the Stanleys.”
“The next day, Saturday, April 9, Kingfield businesses will be having an open house,” she said. “That Saturday is a big day on other fronts, too. The first Beard Growing Contest judging takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Nostalgia Tavern, followed by the Lumberjack Ball at 9 p.m.”
