Senior Planning offering Medicare workshops

FARMINGTON — The Senior Planning Center will offer free educational workshops, Understanding Medicare with a bonus workshop, Four Ways to Save Money on Medicare Expenses with the Medicare Savings Program.

A licensed and qualified agent will facilitate the workshops and answer Medicare questions.

The workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays in Auburn, Livermore Falls and Turner:

Auburn: March 29 at the Auburn Public Library.

Livermore Falls: April 5, 12 and 26 at the Livermore Falls Town Office, 2 Main St.

‘Back In The Maine Stream’

AUGUSTA — Disabled anglers from the non-profit group, Back In The Maine Stream will host a seminar called, “Adaptive angling techniques for the disabled angler.” The free seminar teaches disabled anglers how to adapt, overcome, and get back into fly fishing at The Maine Sportsman’s Show at the Augusta Civic Center held April 1 through 3. Seminar times are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, and noon on Sunday, April 3.

Disabled veterans from BITMS are dedicated to helping other disabled veterans get back into fly fishing, and have a few tips and techniques to help disabled anglers overcome, adapt, and get back on the water and fish. This seminar will also help inform fishing guides how to adapt to disabled anglers.

Also, at the show, veterans with a service-connected disability of 10 percent or more that like fly fishing can join BITMS.

First Saturday at Williams House

WAYNE — First Saturday at the Williams House, which includes a book sale, boutique and breakfast, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 2, at 14 Old Winthrop Road.

For the next few months, there will be a table featuring recent donations, including some great children’s books, a pristine collection of books on World War II, and CDs of classical music.

Future dates will include May 7 and June 4.

NAMI offering class April 7

PARIS — NAMI Maine and its local Western Mountains affiliate are offering NAMI’s free Family to Family education course for families and friends of persons living with mental illness at the University College Center.

It starts Thursday, April 7, and will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays until June 23.

Participants will learn about mental illnesses, treatments and therapies, communication and coping skills, advocacy, resources, self-care for caregivers and much more.

Trek Across Maine seeking volunteers

AUGUSTA — Cycling for healthy air for more than 31 years, the Trek Across Maine attracts nearly 2,000 cyclists and 750 volunteers. This three-day trek takes cyclists 180 miles from Sunday River to the sea in Belfast. The Trek Across Maine is the largest fundraiser of its kind for the American Lung Association nationwide.

The Trek is seeking volunteers to assist on Father’s Day weekend from Friday to Sunday, June 17 to 19.

Trek volunteers bring a wide array of talents, energy and fun to the annual events that support the American Lung Association’s mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
