MECHANIC FALLS — RSU 16 Adult Education has announced upcoming learning opportunities.
Dance Fitness with Nicole Chamberland: 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning April 5 at Minot Consolidated School. Participants will exercise while dancing to top 40 hits with both low and high intensity options. The eight-week session costs $40.
Intro to Self-Employment with Karleen Andrews, microenterprise specialist: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7. This introductory workshop, offered through New Ventures Maine, will cover entrepreneurship, pros and cons of owning a business, managing risk, business plans and start-ups. The course is free, but registration is required.
Auctions with Steven Jean: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12. Participants will learn what goes on behind the scenes, what to expect at a live auction, and tips on how to sell an item or make a purchase.
Medicare 101 with SeniorsPlus: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14. This class will help take the mystery out of Medicare. The course is free, but registration is required.
Wire Wrapped Sea Glass Earrings with Artascope Studios: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 26. Participants will learn basic wire-wrapping techniques to make matching wire-wrapped earrings using pre-drilled cultured sea glass available in a variety of colors. Registration costs $35 and includes materials to make one pair of earrings.
Computer Classes with Suzette Moulton: Session begins Wednesday, April 27. From computer basics to using Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel, RSU 16 has a variety of computer classes designed to meet personal and workforce needs.
i-Device Assistance with Linda Chaisson, district tech coordinator: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Participants should bring their devices to get their questions answered. The course is free, but registration is required.
Resin Pendant with Artascope Studios: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5. Participants will create high-quality jewelry using beautiful patterned paper and resin. They will begin by designing a small collage in an attractive silver bezel, and add ice resin over the top of the decorative papers to create a jewel-like finish. Registration costs $35 and includes materials to make one pendant.
Get Ready to Bike! with the Bike Coalition of Maine: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, May 5, 12 and 19. For adults with little to moderate experience with bicycling, topics will include equipment, clothing, technique, basic maintenance and safety. Participants will increase their knowledge and confidence for whatever kind of bicycling they wish to do. Those attending should bring a bicycle to the last class for evaluation and demonstration. National Bike day is May 20. Registration costs $18.
