1959 – 2016
AUBURN — Benjamin A. Gallop, 56, a resident of Monmouth and Poland, passed away on Saturday, March 26, at the Hospice House surrounded by family after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ben was born on Dec. 13, 1959, in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Richard H. and Nancy (Hathaway) Gallop. He attended schools in many states and foreign countries while growing up in a military family. He graduated from Leavitt Area High School in 1978. Ben was employed at Hartt Transportation Co. as a parts manager. He was also employed at Gates Formed Fiber for many years.
Ben enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Richard H. and Judy (Mason) Gallop of Monmouth; brother, Richard Russell Gallop of Lewiston; one son, Joshua Gallop and his daughter, Ellise Gallop, of Windham; daughters, Robin Siderio and her husband, Anthony, and their daughter, Alivia Siderio, and Meagan Annear and her husband, Ethan, of North Monmouth; his stepson, Jason Mills and his wife, Beth, and their daughters, Grace and Ella Mills. Ben adored his four granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his close friend, Heidi Gallop; and many step-siblings, Dennis Hutchinson and his wife, Marianne, of Lewiston, Tammy Birtwell and her husband, Mark, of Wayne, Barry Green of Turner, Barbie Jo Clement and her husband, Ronney, of Monmouth, Michele Green and her fiancé, Andy, of Turner and Kimberly Mason and her husband, Phillip, of San Antonio, Texas.
He was predeceased by his mother; and his grandparents, Russell and Marion Hathaway and Richard A. and Evelyn (Young) Gallop.
The family would like to thank Ben’s many friends for their expressions of caring and sympathy. In addition, we would like to thank the staff at the Hospice House for their professionalism and warm display of caring.
