LEWISTON — David J. Florio Sr., 72, of Harlow Hill Road, Mexico, died Thursday, March 24, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., on June 9, 1943, he was the son of Vito and Myrtle Moore Florio, and was raised by Myrtle and his stepfather, Joseph “Mugsy” Clinton. Educated in Massachusetts schools, he lived and worked in the Boston, Mass., area for many years, owning his own catering business, Dave’s Canteen.
He moved to Maine in the early 1990s. Dave was an avid Patriots fan, loved playing cards, cribbage and whist with his friends and family. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his children to car races, drive-in movies and was well-known for going all out to celebrate the Fourth of July.
He is survived by a son and a daughter, David Jr. and wife, Julie, of Billerica, Mass., Kathleen Gadarowski-Joyal and husband, Michael, of Dover, N.H.; a brother, Robert Florio and wife, Sally, of Freedom, N.H.; a loving sister, Lisa Tague and husband, Dennis, of Mansfield, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.
Besides his parents and stepfather, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Joyce Florio.
The family wishes to thank Dave’s closest friends who cared deeply for him, Dan and Colleen, and his neighbors, Charlotte and Bob.
