1950 – 2016
Rene J. Sirois, 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Auburn with his loving wife and daughter at his side on Easter Sunday, March 27.
Rene was born March 9, 1950, to parents Robert and Lauretta Sirois in Lewiston.
A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church, he attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1968.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Rene was an accomplished horseshoe pitcher, earning the title of New England Junior Boys Class A Champion in 1965.
Rene joined the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served on the submarine USS Theodore Roosevelt. After his service, Rene began his 35 year career as a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. It was at the Auburn Post Office that Rene met the love of his life, Christine Simones. Rene and Christine were married shortly after on Feb. 18, 1978, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lewiston.
Many happy summers were spent camping and fishing with family on Cobbosseecontee Lake. Though Rene was always one to prefer staying at home to watch his favorite New England sports teams, he happily went along with Christine, and later his daughter, Lindsay, on many vacations; including trips to Bermuda, Prince Edward Island, Florida and South Carolina. Together with his wife, Rene loved to golf and was a member at Prospect Hill Golf Course.
He will be missed by his mother, Lauretta Sirois of Lewiston; an aunt, Sister Rita Ouellette, M.I.C., of Canada; his devoted wife of 38 years, Christine Sirois of Auburn; and his daughter, Lindsay Sirois and her fiancé, Don Littlefield, of Portland; as well as his brother, Leo Sirois and Judy of Lewiston; and sister, Helene Beauchesne and Steve Berry of Poland; brother-in-law, Harry Simones and Nancy; sisters-in-law, Roxanne Dionne and Jil and Elaine Simones and Charlie Tirrell; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rene was predeceased by his father, Robert Sirois.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the palliative care staff at Central Maine Medical Center and the amazing staff at the Androscoggin Hospice, especially Bobbie and Steve, who made it possible to fulfill Rene’s wishes to remain at home with his family.
