If you use Facebook or any social media sites to connect with friends and family, be careful what you post, as well as how much personal information you are sharing, AARP FraudWatch Network cautions.

Scammers troll social media sites so they can “profile” their potential victims. For example, if they know the names of your kids and grandkids, their ages and who is traveling when and where, they can put together an accurate portrait of your family that could make you more vulnerable to scams such as the “grandparent scam.”

Check your privacy settings and think twice before posting every detail about your family.

AARP FraudWatch Network is working to educate the public to prevent scams, which are on the rise.
