Lewiston Det. Sgt. Robert E. Cloutier was telling Wednesday about the Greene store owner (not identified) who flimflammed a couple of flim-flam artists. The detective said two men, who worked the same game in Lewiston earlier this year, went into the man’s market and made a purchase amounting to 25 cents and gave the proprietor a $20 bill. He returned $19.75. One of the men started a free-wheeling who’s-got-the-bill and can-you-change-this-for-that approach but the store owner called a halt. He recalled an item in The Sun about how a pair of quick-talking men talked a local cashier out of $20 this way. The two men left when they couldn’t budge the storekeeper, who got a 25-cent purchase out of them anyway.

The Auburn Housing Authority on Wednesday heard a request from a cosmetologist who would like to set up shop at Barker Mill Arms. AHA Executive Director Richard Whiting said Lorraine Parent has, for many years, “gone from apartment to apartment” providing these services to residents of the Mill Street apartment building. He said project manager Pat Jackson polled residents who attended the meeting and found they were in favor of the idea.
