Kindergarten registration in Sumner

SUMNER — Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, which serves the towns of Hartford, Sumner and Buckfield will hold kindergarten registration and screening for the 2016 kindergarten class from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, April 13 and 14.

All children who register must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2016. To register, parents and car givers should contact the Hartford Sumner Elementary School’s office and be prepared to provide their child’s name, address, telephone number and date of birth. An official copy of the child’s birth certificate must be shown. Screenings last approximately one hour.

All students must be registered and screened prior to enrollment including current pre-schoolers.

Applications accepted for business scholarship

ELLSWORTH — Applications are currently being accepted for the Maine Community Foundation’s Patriot Education Scholarship Fund.

This renewable scholarship supports graduates of a Maine high school who are enrolled full time in pursuit of a business degree and who will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year. Preference is given to applicants who have a demonstrated interest in personal and commercial insurance professions.

U-Maine extension annual meeting

LISBON FALLS — Androscoggin-Sagadahoc Counties Extension Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension office, 24 Main St.

The meeting will include presentations by Tori Jackson and Kristy Ouellette, UMaine Extension educators, and Laura Personette, UMaine Extension 4-H professional staff. New officers will be elected. A catered meal will follow.

ASCEA is actively recruiting new members. In partnership with UMaine Extension staff, the members of each county association assist with providing input on local educational programming needs and oversee the county budget appropriations that support Extension educational programs for county residents.

Lakeside Chapter to meet

WALES — Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, will hold its Stated Meeting on Tuesday, April 12, followed by its 117th Installation of Officers at 7 p.m. at the Grange-Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

Jocelyne Jervis was elected Worthy Matron and Stanton Leighton was elected Worthy Patron for the new year.

The Installing Suite is composed of Stephanie J. Dupal, Past Grand Matron of Maine, Installing Grand Matron; John L. Cousins, Past Grand Patron of Maine, Installing Grand Patron; Deborah Greim, P.M., Installing Grand Chaplain; Josephine V. Dupal, P.M., Installing Grand Marshal; and Eleanor V. Peterson, District Deputy Grand Matron of District No. 4, Installing Grand Organist. The Star Point Ceremony will be given by Linda Gray, Grand Electa.

There will be refreshments provided by the Officers after the meeting.

The Lady Officers will be in white gowns, the Gentlemen in black suits or tuxedos.

The next meeting will be on May 10, and will honor Ruth Wheeler, Grand Representative of West Virginia and Clarinda Andrews, Grand Representative of South Dakota.
