Spring cleanup program canceled
WILTON — The town’s spring clean-up program has been canceled for 2016.
The Board of Selectpersons voted at their meeting Feb. 2 to cancel the program. All residents will be responsible for disposal of their yard waste.
The Transfer Station is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays.
CPR, first aid class offered
OXFORD — There will be a CPR and First Aid Class at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Oxford Public Safety Building.
Participants will learn basic first aid, adult, child and infant CPR and the use of an AED. Upon completion of the one-day class, students will received a two-year certification in accordance with the American Heart Association. This certificate course is accepted for day/child care providers, loggers, guides, teachers and any other non-health care related professions.
Those wishing to participate should call to confirm the date. Groups may also request to schedule a class at their convenience. Healthcare BLS CPR recertifications are done as needed one-on-one.

Retired educators to meet
KINGFIELD — Franklin County Retired Educators will reconvene after a winter break at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Webster Hall.
The featured speaker will be Julie Shapleigh of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s home health services. She will talk about home safety for seniors.
There will be a book swap for all of the books read during the winter.
A catered lunch will be served for $10. Current members will be called to get a count, and reservations are required by Monday, April 11.

Preserve the harvest with UMaine Extension
FARMINGTON — Food preservation will be the focus of a University of Maine Cooperative Extension workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the UMaine Extension office, 138 Pleasant St., Suite 1.
Taught by Kate McCarty, UMaine Extension food preservation community education assistant, this hands-on workshop features the basics of canning and freezing, including how to use hot water bath canners to preserve jam or vegetables. Fresh produce and canning jars will be provided. Participants should bring a potholder.
The $20 fee includes materials. Registration is required.

Living with Arthritis at SMH
NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital will offer the workshop Living with Arthritis from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building.
Participants will learn strategies to manage arthritis of the hands, hips and knees.
Occupational therapists and physical therapists from Stephens Memorial Hospital will teach exercises and joint protection strategies to help those with arthritis move better and with less pain. Light refreshments will be provided.
The program is free, but registration is required.
