1919 – 2016
AUBURN — C. Robert Gibson, 96, died Sunday evening, April 3, at the Bolster Heights Nursing home in Auburn.
He was born in Auburn on Aug. 19, 1919. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Following the war, he was involved with commercial construction where he had been employed most of his life as a crane operator with Cote Crane Corp., until his retirement.
He was an avid golfer which he claimed kept him alive for so long. He also was a sports enthusiast watching football, baseball and golf tournaments on TV, which he enjoyed even if the games kept him up all night. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Gibson Estes and her husband, Kenneth Estes of Auburn; his grandson, Robert Estes of Auburn; his granddaughter, Tanya Estes of New Gloucester; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Thelma Hodgkins Gibson.
