TURNER — Byan Brito, lead instructor for the SAD 52 Adult Education program, was selected as one of two teachers in Maine to attend the 2016 Marine Educators workshop.
Brito traveled to Parris Island, S.C., and spent four days as a Marine recruit at a hands-on experience that included training with Marine Corp martial arts instructors, tackling “The Crucible,” battling an obstacle course, participating in leadership development classes and the live-fire of an M-16.
Included in this weeklong experience is the opportunity to attend the 2016 graduating class ceremony.
For one week, all of SAD 52 Adult Education academic classes will focus on Brito’s adventure, using collaborative curriculum tied into his daily endeavors. Via the use of a web-based blog, streaming video and student projects, the school will learn more about history, literature, science and art with a focus on the armed forces and courage.
SAD 52 Adult Education offers programs and curriculum such as this to assist students in earning their high school diploma, HiSET certificate, College Transition preparation course and other career planning and certification courses.
