ANSWER: Deer seem to love hosta leaves. There are some products on the market, like wireless deer fences, Deer Scram, or liquid odor repellents, that work well to deter deer from areas of your yard and garden you’re trying to protect. You can also try motion detector lights or triggered sprinkler systems near your plants, which may startle the deer when they approach and scare them away.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have two requests for your readers’ input. First, we are retired and presently cable subscribers. We are interested in keeping our subscription cost stable. We only watch about a half dozen channels out of the offered package. We are doing homework before the rates go up again, and we are sure we are not alone in this quest. We would appreciate any input in the matter. Please share your tips, we are open.

Second, I have recently finished building a roll top desk and I am looking for a wooden banker’s chair (it looks like a wooden version of a present day office desk chair). If it needs refinishing or repair, that would be fine. Thank you for your people-friendly column. — Gordon, No Town.

ANSWER: Okay readers, let’s hear from you. Don’t let Gordon down.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Sun Journal had an article about a fellow who put that wonderful music back on WLAM 1470 for all of us born in the late ’30s, ’40s and ’50s to enjoy. No commercials — just great music continuously all day. I just wanted to thank him and let him know how much it is enjoyed. So, thank you. — Beverley, Auburn.

ANSWER: You must be referring to Bob Bittner who appeared in the Sun Journal on Feb. 23 as the subject of an article by Staff Writer Alex Lear. In February, Bittner, who already owned four other stations, purchased WLAN along with one other, bringing his total properties up to six. All of his stations  are run solely on listener donations and play  commercial-free music from the ’40s  through the ’80s. He calls his stations “The Memories Stations,” and he runs them as a hobby, receiving no income for his effort. So Sun Spots is fairly certain he’ll appreciate that you took a moment from your day to pen a letter expressing your gratitude for his love of music and the memories his hard work provides to his listeners.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The family looking for a Bible-based church might like the teachings of New Life Stevens Mills located at 57 Manley Road in Auburn. They might want to check out the website newlifestevensmills.org. Sunday morning services are at 10 a.m. They are a non-denominational Bible-believing church. Best regards, A member of the church. — No Name, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband and I would like to thank the young man who gave us movie passes Saturday night. That was so kind and thoughtful. We wish you all the best in your new job and hope your future is very prosperous. Thank you again. The movie was great. — E.R., Turner.
