There is considerable interest in the motorcycle contest now being carried on by the Liggett & Myers Company in which the person securing the most coupons and cigarette fronts from the Fatima, Perfection, Piedmont and Oasis cigarettes, also the coupons from the packages of Dukes Mixture and Velvet tobacco, is to receive a motorcycle. A. P. Wood, local representative for the Liggett & Myers company has created a lot of interest in the contest and already has about 15 of the most popular men in the two cities entered. The motorcycle is of the Indian make and is well worth a lot of hard work in trying to win. The contestants are all working hard for the motorcycle as well as the distinction of being the most popular young man. The motorcycle is on display in the store of Miller & Robinson, Court street, Auburn.
50 years ago, 1966
Auburn police have obtained some gymnasium equipment needed in setting up an exercise room at police headquarters and “have a line on” some other equipment. A set of lifting weights was donated by an Auburn store and the Auburn Police Association purchased a professional type rowing machine for a fraction of its original cost.
25 years ago, 1991
When she begins her duties as deputy commissioner of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection Tuesday, Debrah Richard will be bringing a piece of Lewiston to the job. She served as Lewiston’s planning director from 1986 until her appointment as director of DEP’s Bureau of Land Quality Control. The Lewiston resident said her tenure with the city helped her develop many of her managerial skills and contributed to her sense of service in the public sector.
