Covenant 50, the membership program of St. Mary’s Hospital and the Sisters of Charity Health System for people over 50, is now offering free transportation to and from appointments at St. Mary’s. “The community has been crying out for help of this kind,” said Irene Gondek, manager of LIFE Services for the Sisters of Charity Health System. “Members of the community have taken vacation days or called in sick to their place of work so they can bring a parent to the hospital. In the worse cases, older people are avoiding certain needed tests and procedures because they cannot get to a hospital.”
