LISBON — Police Chief David Brooks is retiring June 30 after 42 years of service to the town.

His resignation was accepted Tuesday night by the Town Council.

Brooks was the youngest police chief in Maine when he started in Lisbon at the age of 26.

Council Chairman Roger Bickford and Councilors Norm Albert, Eric Metivier, Chris Brunelle, Allen Ward and Kasie Kolbe voted in favor. Dale James Crafts was absent.

Updates have been made to the Moxie Festival website, Economic and Community Development Director Tracey Steuber told the council.

“You can go on your phone or tablet and check it out,” Steuber said. All the events, the parade schedule, 5K race registration info and vendor registration are all online, she said.

The council voted 6-0 to authorize Library Director Diane Nadeau to apply for the Central Maine Credit Union Grant of $500. The library has been awarded the grant before, Nadeau told the council. It will be used to enhance the summer reading program. Nadeau was also given permission to have a fund set up to receive donations for the program.

Letters will go out to businesses asking for gift certificates, in addition to the other prizes awarded to participants in the summer reading program, she said.

The council also approved creating a Capital Improvement Funds account using the proceeds of a $100,000 certificate of deposit maturing July 16. The money will be used for extraordinary infrastructure, facilities and real property needs that are unexpected, Finance Director Ed Karass told the council.

“It’s a great idea,” Councilor Eric Metivier said. “We should’ve done it a long time ago.”

In other business, the council:

* Voted 6-0 to approve the warrant for the School Budget Referendum scheduled for June 14. The Town Council will vote on the budget May 17.

 * Voted 6-0 to set a public hearing May 10 for the School Capital Improvement Plan.
