RUMFORD — Holy Savior School has partnered with Saint Dominic Academy to offer a blended learning program for students.
Program implementation will begin for the 2016-17 academic year.
Blended learning is a research-proven strategy that combines traditional teaching methods with the delivery of content and material via digital and online media. The pace and application of the material is adjusted on a student-by-student basis.
“Blended learning environments promote a ‘family feel’ in schools that are employing them across the country. It is a model that helps students maximize their abilities through teaching methods and technology that will accompany them throughout their academic careers,” said Jim King, superintendent of Maine Catholic Schools.
Saint Dom’s will manage the administrative, financial and curriculum oversight for Holy Savior, while Holy Savior Parish will continue to provide pastoral care and spiritual leadership for the school. A committee of representatives from both schools and the superintendent of Maine Catholic Schools will conduct monthly reviews of the partnership.
The committee met in January with teachers, parents and Holy Savior parishioners to explain the new partnership.
As part of the new program, the infrastructure at Holy Savior School will be enhanced with investments in new technology and independent learning software. Current staff members are already participating in professional development and training to ensure a successful transition.
