1929 – 2016

MEXICO – Ruth B. Voter, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 21. She was a resident of Granite Street in Mexico.

Born in West Newfield on April 9, 1929, Ruth was a daughter of George Gibson and Jennie Cilley and attended Parsonsfield Seminary in Parsonsfield. She worked as a chambermaid at Whitney’s Inn and Eagle Mountain House where she met the love of her life and future husband Russell Voter. She also worked at Freddie’s and Newberry’s in Rumford.

Ruth attended Mexico First Baptist Church and Peru Baptist Church. She loved photography, cats, spending time with her family, especially at camp. She was a 37-year cancer survivor and participated in the Relay For Life walk where she received the Shirley Comeau Courage Award. She was known to many as “Gram” and was well-known for her big smile.

She was married in Mexico on Dec. 6, 1953, to Russell S. Voter who died in Mexico on March 30, 1996.

Survivors include her three daughters Rebecah White and husband, Joseph, of Rumford, Elizabeth Voter of Mexico, Deborah Jamison and her companion, Ron Tyler, of Milton Plantation; her two brothers, Bernard Roes of Hiram and William Cilley of Acton; her grandchildren, Angela White of Washington, N.H., Joseph White and his wife, Kristy, of Sabattus, Bonnie White of Rumford, Kevin White of Canton, Danielle Jamison and her fiancé, Fred Warman, of Rockwood; her great-grandchildren, Isaac White, Aaron White and Nathan White, all of Sabattus; her special friends, Sheila, Keith, Gayle, Whitney, CJ, Kora, Erica and Josh.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell; a son, Peter; and two sisters, Betty Moulton and Donna Cheney.
