LEWISTON — The Stanton Bird Club of Lewiston and Auburn will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 2, in Room 285 at the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College, 55 Westminster St.

The subject will be Moon Watching, presented by Alan Seamans. The meeting is free and open to everyone.

Through interactive demonstrations, Seamans will show why the moon has eclipses, phases and size changes. He’ll touch upon other topics such as tides, the “dark side” misconception and movie mistakes. He will lead audience members in a simple activity in which they can make predictions about where the moon will appear in the sky and how it will change day to day.

Seamans has been a volunteer for the Stanton Bird Club since 2006. He has helped monitor vernal pools, conduct field trips, assist with stewardship and edit the club’s newsletter, “The Chickadee Chronicle.” He completed the Maine Master Naturalist program in June 2013.

The club will host 11 field trips in May. All are free and open to the public.
