AMVETS Post receives $50,000 donation

JAY — Lane-Dube AMVETS Post 33 Commander Greg McDonald announced that the post has received a $50,000 donation from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation. The donation was given primarily to cover the cost of installation of a sprinkler system and fire alarm at the post.

“The post is very grateful and thankful to the King Foundation for their generosity,” said McDonald.

The grant should cover the majority of cost for this project, he added.

VFW Post 9787 yard sale 

PARIS — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9787 will hold an inside-outside yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at 58 Main St.

Flea market at Mallet School

FARMINGTON — The W.G. Mallet School will sponsor a flea market and yard sale from, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7, in the school bus loop, 113 Quebec St.

Spaces cost $15, and vendors must supply their own tables. 

All proceeds from the event will be for summer camp scholarships.

Wellness Collaborative to hold training

BETHEL — The Oxford County Wellness Collaborative is conducting trainings for those interested in facilitating gatherings around Oxford County that focus on improving overall health.

The next training is from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the Bethel Alliance Church, 251 Walkers Mills Road.

The free training provides attendees with the skills to host community conversations to help reduce substance abuse and obesity by addressing isolation and disconnection as contributing factors.

Food will be provided at the training, and financial help is available to cover transportation and child care expenses.

Knitting guild to meet

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street in South Paris.

This will be the annual road trip, and the group will car pool from the church to Rosemary’s Gift and Yarn Shop in Windham.

Following the tour of the shop, the group will go out to lunch.

Western Maine Knitting Guild always welcomes new members. Those wanting to learn a new stitch, try out a new pattern or just see what other folks are knitting may attend any one of the meetings.
