FARMINGTON — The cement is poured for flooring and a crane is lifting trusses in to place this week for an expansion at Farmington Ford.

A 40-foot by 72-foot expansion to the auto sales and service dealership, located at 531 Wilton Rd., started the first week of April, Jim White, general manager, said Monday.

The project will give the service area four new bays for repair or a total of 12 and provide space for working on taller, bigger trucks and motor-homes, he said.

“We’re selling more cars and creating more customers who need service,” he said. “We need the space.”

Expanding at the present site was a third option considered. Owner Stewart White considered building a new building on the property and purchasing a nearby auto-dealer’s property before deciding to expand the service area going 40-feet straight back from the present building, he said.

The work is expected to be completed by the middle of June.

White expects to hire a few new employees to join the staff of experienced and skilled technicians and to work in the new service bays.

Local companies, E.L. Vining and Son of Farmington did the ground work and Grimaldi Concrete of Jay did the concrete flooring, he said. Sheridan Construction Corp out of Fairfield is the contractor for the expansion.

White expected the crane would be used throughout this week as the construction continues.

The Farmington Planning Board approved the project plans during a meeting in March when Stewart White and a project engineer presented the plans.

Members agreed that it was great to have a business here in Farmington ready to expand.
