Seniors holding ice cream social

PERU — The Greater Rumford Senior Citizens will host an ice cream social with music by Jim Roy at 2 p.m. Monday, May 9.

East Ellis Cemetery cleanup, meeting

RUMFORD — Volunteers are needed to clean up the East Ellis Cemetery on Andover Road.

The cleanup will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12.

Citizens who have a relative interred or have been assigned a plot should plan to bring a rake and help rake leaves, small branches and pine needles. The annual meeting will follow the cleanup.

Quilters to meet May 12

RUMFROD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street.

The meeting is open to all area quilters. Show and tell is welcome.

Those interested in participating in the Spring Fabric Swap should bring at least 20 10-inch pastel fabric squares that have been machine-washed and dried.

Quilts for veterans will be collected at this meeting.

Legion to hold indoor sale 

PARIS — South Paris American Legion Post 72 will hold an indoor sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14.

Tables may be reserved for $10 for yard sale items and $15 for crafters and vendors. 

The lunch counter will be open, and there will be a 50/50 raffle. 

Proceeds from the sale will help the auxiliary send three girls to Girls State.

Partnering to stamp out hunger

HARTFORD — The Rural Community Action Ministry’s Hunger Coalition for Hartford, Buckfield, Canton, Livermore and Sumner is partnering with the rural mail carriers annual food drive on Saturday, May 14.

Nonperishable foods in a grocery bag hung on the mailbox on that day will be collected and donated to the Hartford Food Pantry.

Those wishing may send a check to Town of Hartford, Hartford Food Pantry, 1197 Main St., Hartford ME 04220.

Honeybee club to meet

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will hold a workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Weather-permitting, lifetime beekeeper Ken Record will demonstrate how to do an even split. Those attending should bring veils. The public is welcome.

Touch-a-Truck May 14 

BRYANT POND — Children and the young at heart will have the opportunity to “Touch-a-Truck” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 14, at the Town Office. 

Trucks will include police cars, firetrucks, logging equipment, race cars, jeeps, tractors and buses.

Admission costs $5 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Woodstock Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association. 

MOCA spring program in Sweden

SWEDEN —  The Maine Old Cemetery Association has designated May 22 to 28 as Maine Old Cemetery Week to support its mission to preserve, maintain and study old cemeteries across the state.

In the lead up to Memorial Day, the association’s annual spring meeting and program will be hosted by the Sweden Historical Society on Saturday, May 14, at the Sweden Town Meeting House, 144 Bridgton Road.

The event is open to the public. Registration costs $3.
