LEWISTON — New England Cable News journalist Danielle Waugh will host the 2016 Safe Voices Walk/Run to End Domestic Violence on Saturday, June 4, at Bates College.
Same-day registration begins at 8 a.m., and preregistration is currently open at www.safevoices.org. Event shirts will be available to 5K and one-mile registrants while supplies last. Participants should sign up before May 20 to secure their shirt size.
The 5K walk/run will begin at 9 a.m. and the one-mile walk at 9:10 a.m. The half-mile Kids’ Fun Run begins at 10 a.m. and will feature mascots Slugger from the Portland Sea Dogs and Crusher from the Maine Red Claws.
Children in strollers and well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.
There will be a Zumba warm-up at 8:45 a.m. and karate demonstrations at 9:45 and 10:35 a.m. Food trucks and other vendors will be there for spectators and hungry runners.
Safe Voices will host an after-party for the 5K at noon at Pedro O’Hara’s. It will feature live music from local band Doctor Fatfinger. Participants who show their race bib will receive 10-percent off their orders.
The team that raises the most money will receive a $100 gift card to Pedro O’Hara’s. There will also be a prize for the individual who raises the most money.
Prizes will be awarded to top-tier runners in each age group as well as the overall male and female finishers.
All proceeds will benefit Safe Voices to help support victims of domestic violence in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.
