LIVERMORE — Betty Jane (Hickey) Korhonen, 88, of Livermore died peacefully at home Friday, May 6 with her daughter by her side.
She was born Aug. 31, 1927 in Livermore Falls, daughter of Ernest and Velma (Richards) Hickey. She graduated from Livermore Falls High School in the Class of 1945. After graduation, she went to Washington, D.C. to work for the Department of the Navy. Later, she worked at Livermore Shoe Shop and the Otis paper mill.
On Oct. 16, 1945, she married John Korhonen. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage, first residing on Knapp Street in Livermore Falls and then moving to North Livermore in 1965. Over the years, they enjoyed time spent at a summer camp on Round Pond, a hunting camp in North New Portland and then a log cabin on Moosehead Lake in Rockwood. Many happy days were spent with her family and friends at the camps.
Betty enjoyed quilting, crafts and bird watching. She took great pleasure in the numerous vacations enjoyed with her husband, including their annual trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. She was the beloved “Gram” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson, spending countless hours playing cards and pick-up sticks. She will be lovingly remembered for her quiet strength and positive influence on her family, and will be sadly missed by all.
Left to mourn her passing are a son and daughter-in-law, Brian Korhonen and Deidra Korhonen Caldwell of North Livermore; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Normand Leclerc of Turner; grandsons and wives John and Amy Korhonen of Jay, Todd and Amanda Leclerc of Greene, Brady and Jen Leclerc of Fairfield; six great-granddaughters, Madison Korhonen, Brittany Greenman, Kierstin, Kaitlyn, Kayla and Taylor Leclerc; a great-grandson, Garrett Leclerc; and great-great grandson, Connor Greenman. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lou Therrien of Georgia and Livermore Falls; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband who died in January of 2005; her parents; and two sisters, Alberta Gallant and Ervine Bonnevie.
